How do I join or renew membership with ULEMASA?
Can I join if I was dismissed at the embassy?
Only those employed in diplomatic missions and the security personnel and cleaners in the private sector can join ULEMASA.
What makes ULEMASA valuable to its members?
We use legitimate means to ensure that our members’ rights are protected. Diplomatic missions can no longer hide under the veil of immunities and inviolability of premises when they infringe on the rights of our members as we now refer disputes against their governments.
Who are ULEMASA members?
Members of ULEMASA are locally recruited staff in diplomatic missions They are drivers, security personnel, secretaries, personal assistants, chefs, receptionists, interpreters, marketing officers, protocol officers, cleaners and security guards. We also have housekeepers and gardeners at the residences of diplomats. Some of our members are also cleaners and security staff in the private sector.
From which institutions can workers join ULEMASA?
Embassies, consulates, high commissions, international organisations, residences of diplomats and private sector.
What are the benefits of ULEMASA membership?
Your labour rights as contained in the Basic Conditions of Employment Act, Employment Equity Act, Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act, Labour Relations Act, etc, are protected.
What types of ULEMASA memberships are available, and what are the fees?
There is only one type of membership in ULEMASA.
